Sidemount Diving is an alternate configuration where tanks are rigged along side the diver, creating a lower profile in the water. Divers may choose to dive sidemount for the ability to have reduntant systems for added self reliance. Some divers find it preferable as there is less weight on their back as they access the dive site and enter the water. It is also the preferred configuration for most cave and cavern divers.
